Sculptural carafe in the form of a seated cat, conceived to be viewed in profile, Ermanno Nason, Murano 1988.
Clearly influenced by Picasso; Nason created several works after the artist’s original drawings.
The head shows a single almond-shaped eye, pointed ears, and stylized whiskers, all in applied black and blue glass.
The body is richly decorated with multicolor applications that float over a warm ground with silver-leaf inclusions, creating lively movement across the surface.
A loop handle completes the silhouette and echoes the cat’s tail.
Original preparatory drawing available: Mixed technique on pasteboard (19.5 x 13.5 in.)
Signed and dated by the artist.
